Upcycle old jars into chic minimal textured vases!
Between the disturbed nights from our kittens chasing each other up and down the stairs at some ungodly hour and all this working from home, we are getting through so much coffee at the moment. Because of that, I have yet another old coffee jar to upcycle, and after a bit of perusing, came across a photo on instagram of a vase from Homesense that I wanted to try and replicate. I have no idea where the vase is originally from, I haven’t been able to find the original anywhere, so if you know, please do let me know in the comments below.
After initially attempting the lines on this with clay, I soon realised that it would be a lot easier and neater if I used builders caulk. We always have builders caulk on hand, it’s just one of those things we seem to always need, and so along with the coffee jar, paint and baking powder, this project didn’t require any new materials. I managed some of this freehand but after some trial and error it was a lot easier to get a neat edge using painters tape and so I’ve recommended that below. I then used the baking powder/paint mixture which seems to be trending at the moment, just to give it a go, and I have to say, I can see why everyone’s at it! I love the texture it gave my vase, and it gives it such a professional look. Keeping reading for the step-by-step tutorial…
