How I used artifical foliage, lights and eggshells to create a pretty Easter mantle!
I love an easy project that still packs a punch and this was one of those! We’ve been getting these lovely sage green eggs recently, and so after we’ve used them, I’ve been cleaning out and keeping the eggshells. I don’t often decorate for Easter, but this year, with my faux fireplace in place, I knew I wanted to add a subtle nod to the season.
I used some faux eucalyptus sprigs left over from our wedding decor, as well as some dainty fairy lights, and then added in my handpainted eggshells. I found it so relaxing painting these, and as I had all of the items already, except the eggs which we got primarily for cooking, creating this mantle didn’t cost a thing. I’ve got more Spring projects and Easter projects coming your way, so stay tuned!
I’d love to hear what you think of this project, and if you like it, please do share on social media and subscribe for updates! Keep reading for the step by step tutorial and list of materials you’ll need…
Copper / gold paint
Paint brush
Eggshells
Eucalyptus sprigs
Copper micro lights
1.
First of all, I used the eggs and then washed out the shells.
2.
Once dry, I mixed some copper and gold paint together to create the colour I wanted and then carefully painted the inside of the shell,
3.
I then left this to dry, and then painted a second coat of this colour on the inside of the shell.
4.
I repeated steps 1-3 with all of the eggshells I had available and left them in the egg carton to completely dry,
5.
Next, I lay some faux eucalyptus sprigs on the mantle, draped my fairy lights and positioned my egg shells so that they had a light inside of them.
