Create a stone-effect taper candle holder using air-dry clay and curry powder!
A few weeks ago, I experimented with curry powder and air-dry clay, and created a jewellery dish. Although the effect was subtle, I really liked the warm speckled texture it had, and when I was looking for a holder for a taper candle I handpainted with tulips, I realised I could turn my dish into a candle holder. All of the details and the tutorial for the stone-effect jewellery dish are here, and below you can find the tutorial for how to turn it into a candle holder. This was such an easy project, and despite how easy it was, the final product feels really robust and aesthetically pleasing. I know I’m going to get alot of use out of it, and love that I have something deserving to put my handpainted Spring taper candle in. Superglue
Mod Podge
1.
First of all, put some curry powder into a bowl.
2.
Cut off some air-dry clay and knead this into the curry powder. Keep kneading until the curry powder is evenly distributed.
3.
Roll the clay out using an acrylic roller and then use a straight edge to cut this into long rectangular shape.
4.
Place the clay around a taper candle and cut off the excess clay.
5.
Score the clay and use your finger with water to seamlessly attach the ends of the clay. Once you have a cylinder shape, remove it from the candle and leave it to dry.
6.
Once completely dry, use superglue to stick the cylinder to the clay dish.
7.
Finally, seal the holder with a layer of mod podge.
